The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops and Statehouse held meetings to work out State involvement in the Papal visit which was largely controlled by the church.According to the Apostolic Nuncio to kenya and South Sudan,His Excellency Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo,Pope Francis Trip was more of a pastoral than a state visit. However, being a head of state himself-Vatican is a city state-pope Francis was accorded full state honours, including inspecting a guard of honour, holding private talks with Kenya's president Uhuru Kenyatta and addressing the Nation. Keen to play its part in the Papal visit, the government of Kenya held talks with the church on how best to host Pope Francis and laid a red carpet during the visit and played a leading role in providing security."The holy Father's visit are never state visits. They are pastoral visits with some aspects of relationship with the state which mostly are welcoming ceremony and then the farewell which is very brief.Although the pope is the head of state,he is travelling as the Holy Father,"said Archbishop Balvo. One thing is clear-that the Pope's three day visit posed a headache to Kenya's security agents...You cannot keep Pope Francis away from the people-no matter how hard you try.The schedule for the Pope’s visit indicated that he would arrive in Nairobi on Wednesday evening and then hold a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi, where he would also spend half-an-hour with Kenya’s administration and all the diplomats in the country who have been invited to the meeting at the presidential residence. During the three-day Kenya visit, the Pope visited a Catholic Parish in Nairobi’s Kangemi neighbourhood. According the programme, the Pope visited St Joseph the Worker Parish on Friday from 8.30am and spend one and half hours where he conducted meetings with residents and faithfuls. On Thursday 26, the Holy Father held an interdenominational meeting with religious leaders at the residence of the Apostolic Nuncio before heading to the University of Nairobi Grounds for the Papal Mass. The Pope then headed to St Mary’s School in Lavington where he held another meeting with the clergy, religious men and women, and seminarians.
